What yoga poses help with confidence and posture?

Mister.Yoga — Posture & Self-Confidence

Lia

Hi everyone 💜 I’m pretty new to yoga and I’m looking for yoga poses that can help with confidence and posture. I work at a laptop all day and I notice I’m slouching, shoulders forward, neck tense… and honestly it affects how I feel in public too (I kind of shrink myself). I’m not trying to “fix” myself overnight, just build better posture and feel more open and grounded.

If you have specific poses or a short routine that helps you stand taller and feel more confident, I’d love suggestions. Bonus if you can explain what to focus on (breath, shoulders, core, etc). Thank you!

Ananda

Dear Lia, confidence often grows when prana (life energy) can move freely through the chest and spine. When we collapse forward, the heart space (anahata chakra) feels protected, but also dimmed.

For posture and inner openness: Tadasana (Mountain) with slow diaphragmatic breathing; Bhujangasana (Cobra) or Sphinx to awaken the spine gently; Setu Bandha (Bridge) to open the front body; and Virabhadrasana II (Warrior II) to feel steady and dignified.

Key is breath: inhale to lengthen the spine, exhale to soften tension around the ribs and shoulders. Do not force backbends—invite expansion. A few minutes of Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing) before practice can calm the mind and help you “arrive” in your body.

Giada

Omg yes posture + confidence is SUCH a glow-up combo ✨🧘‍♀️ I’d do a mini “open chest / strong back” flow:

- Mountain pose (like… stand like you mean it 😌) + 5 slow breaths

- Cat-Cow x 6 (feel your spine wake up)

- Low Cobra or Sphinx x 3 breaths (don’t crunch your neck!)

- Locust pose (even baby version) for upper back strength

- Warrior II + Reverse Warrior (hello inner main character) 💅

- Finish with Child’s pose to chill

Cue: “shoulders down and wide, collarbones smile.” And a tiny tip: practice standing tall in Mountain for 30 seconds before you leave the house. It’s lowkey confidence training 💖

Posture requires strength. Not vibes.

Do: Tadasana. Align ears over shoulders, shoulders over hips. Ribs stacked. Chin slightly tucked.

Strengthen: Bhujangasana (Cobra). Keep elbows in. Lift sternum, not chin. Glutes lightly engaged.

Stabilize: Plank. Neutral pelvis. Push floor away. Breathe through nose.

Open front: Setu Bandha (Bridge). Knees track forward. Do not splay.

Practice 10 minutes daily. Same time. Same sequence. Progress comes from consistency.

Oh Lia, I hear you 💜 Sometimes our posture is just our nervous system asking for softness. In yin yoga we open gently, and confidence can bloom from that calm space 🌷😊

My sweet favorites:

- Supported fish pose (with a pillow/bolster) to open the chest 😌💞

- Melting heart (puppy pose) very slowly, breathe into the upper back 🫶

- Reclined twist to unwind tension 😇

Stay 2–4 minutes if it feels good, no forcing. And during the holds, repeat quietly: “I am safe, I can open.” 🧘‍♀️✨ If pain shows up (sharp pinchy), come out and choose a gentler shape.

Rocco

Confidence and posture? Cool, so you want the “I’m enlightened” stance without the actual work? 😏

Real talk: real yoga isn’t posing for Instagram with your butt popped and neck cranked. If you want better posture, strengthen your upper back and stop living like a question mark.

Do basics: Mountain (properly), Plank (properly), Cobra (not the “snake-choking” version). And maybe… close the laptop and stand up sometimes. Revolutionary, I know 🙃

Pina

Following because SAME 😭💗 I always feel like my shoulders are glued forward and in class I get embarrassed when the teacher says “open your chest” and I’m like… how?? 😅

Do you need to be flexible to do Cobra/Bridge? And what if your wrists hurt in Plank? Also… do you think a thicker yoga mat helps with feeling more stable? 🙈

ValeX

From a performance angle: posture + confidence is partly neuromuscular patterning + autonomic tone. If you sit all day, your thoracic extension and scapular control decondition.

High ROI poses/drills: Mountain with “stacking” + nasal breathing (downshifts stress), Locust variations (posterior chain), Bridge (hip extension), and thoracic openers like Sphinx.

If you track HRV: try 5 minutes of slow nasal breathing (around 5–6 breaths/min) before practice; many people see better recovery and less tension. Combine with sleep hygiene and strength training for the upper back. If you have persistent neck pain, get a physio assessment—posture work should not create symptoms.

okieee Liaaaa 💖✨ posture + confidence = HEART CHAKRA UNLOCKED!!! 🌙🔮 like when your shoulders open it’s literally your aura saying “hi world” 😭

Poses that make me feel ✨tall queen energy✨:

- Mountain (imagine a crystal crown on your head)

- Warrior I/II (manifestation stance!!!)

- Camel (gentle tho!!) it’s like opening a portal 💫

I also put rose quartz near my mat and do affirmations: “I take up space.” 🥺💗 (not medical advice just vibessss)

Diego

Hot yoga fixed my “desk hunch” more than anything, mostly because you can’t hide from your habits when you’re drenched 😅

In a heated room, I feel my spine actually move: Chair pose for legs + core, Warrior series for strong stance, Locust/Cobra for upper back, then Camel if your back is ready.

Confidence-wise: surviving a tough hot class builds mental grit. Just hydrate, don’t push dizziness, and go easy if you’re new to heat.

Hi Lia 💜 If you (or anyone reading) are pregnant or postpartum, posture and “confidence” can feel extra sensitive—your body is changing, and that deserves gentleness 🥰

Safe, supportive options many pregnant students enjoy: Mountain with wall support, Cat-Cow, supported Bridge (with a block/bolster, not a deep backbend), and chest-opening with a strap (very light) 😊

Avoid forcing strong backbends, and always prioritize easy breathing. If there’s any pain, dizziness, or pelvic discomfort, it’s best to check with your healthcare provider or a prenatal-trained teacher 🙏

Nico

Posture isn’t just “muscles.” It’s frequency. When society keeps you hunched over screens, it collapses your field and blocks the signal.

Heart-opening poses (Cobra, Bridge, even just standing tall in Mountain) can shift your resonance. Combine with slow breath and focus between the brows—third eye calibration.

Ancient schools knew spinal alignment is an antenna. Not everyone is ready for that conversation.

Zenna

Stand.

Breathe.

Let the crown rise.

Confidence follows.

As someone who came from CrossFit: “confidence posture” is basically scapular control + thoracic mobility 😅🏋️‍♂️🧘

Stuff that helped me:

- Locust holds (upper back endurance)

- Sphinx/Cobra for thoracic extension

- Down dog with active shoulders (push the floor away)

- Warrior II for that stable, grounded stance

Also: don’t skip pulling work (rows/bands) if you train. Yoga + a bit of strength = posture upgrade 💪✨

Alessia

For confidence + posture I swear by a “studio-ready” routine: Mountain, Warrior II, and a gentle chest opener like Supported Fish. It makes you look and feel so lifted ✨🧘‍♀️

Also not gonna lie: having a grippy mat and a strap helps you focus on alignment instead of slipping 😅 I love a clean neutral set (and yes cute leggings make me stand taller lol) 💜

Omkar

Confidence is often the radiance of the aura when the spine is aligned and the breath is conscious. For posture, work with the central channel (sushumna nadi).

Practice: Tadasana with long deep breathing; Bhujangasana to awaken the spinal fire; and gentle Seated Spinal Flex (Sukhasana) to circulate energy.

A simple mantra can support inner strength: “Sat Nam” (truth is my identity). Whisper it with the breath. If you feel emotional release during heart opening, stay steady and compassionate with yourself.

Teo

My confidence increases dramatically right after yoga because I’m proud I survived stretching my hamstrings without filing a complaint 😂🧘

But yeah, Mountain pose is underrated. Just standing there like a loaf of bread with purpose. And Cobra is great as long as you don’t do the “turtle neck deluxe” version 😅

Lina

Hi Lia, you can absolutely work on posture and confidence with very simple movements—even seated.

Try this chair sequence: sit tall with feet grounded, gently roll shoulders up-back-down, then do seated Cat-Cow (hands on thighs), and a seated chest opener by clasping hands behind the back (or holding a strap) without forcing.

Finish by pressing feet into the floor and imagining a string lifting the crown of your head. Small daily practice brings big changes over time.

Irene

Posture and confidence are also digestion + energy in Ayurveda terms—when we feel heavy or stressed, we collapse. Along with chest openers (Sphinx, Bridge) I love pairing practice with grounding routines.

After yoga, try warm ginger or tulsi tea (if it suits you) and a slow meal without screens. When agni (digestive fire) is steady, the body often feels more “upright” and clear.

Not a cure-all, but a supportive ritual that makes posture work stick.

Dado

Ok but like… how fast can I level up posture + confidence tho 😤🔥 I want results in 2 weeks lol 😅

If I do Camel + Bridge every day will my shoulders open faster?? Also how many minutes is “enough” per day? I’m ready to grind 💪😈

Elly

I used to slouch a lot because I wanted to be invisible 🥺🌿 Yoga helped me take up space in a gentle way.

The pose that changed things for me was Mountain at the wall (so I feel supported), then Child’s pose when I get overwhelmed. And slow breathing while opening the chest in Sphinx made me feel safe enough to “open” without panic.

Tiny steps are still steps 💗 If confidence feels tied to anxiety, it can also help to talk to a therapist or a kind teacher. You don’t have to do it alone.

Paolo

From the yogic lens, “confidence” is less about performance and more about steadiness of mind. In the Yoga Sutras, practice (abhyasa) and non-attachment (vairagya) are the foundations.

Posture work can become a physical expression of sthira-sukham asanam: stable and easeful. Poses like Tadasana and Virabhadrasana are powerful not because they look impressive, but because they teach aligned effort without aggression.

If you approach your posture with curiosity rather than self-judgment, the psychological shift can be just as meaningful as the physical one.

Mirko

Liaaa I did this in Bali on a retreat and it was life changing 🥹🌴✨ For posture + confidence I do: 10 min sun salutations, then warrior flow, then a heart opener like camel.

Also i swear waking up early and no phone for 1 hour makes you stand taller, it’s crazy. Try a morning routine with journaling + breathwork, you will feel more open and more calm, trust me 😅💛

Tom

Which poses help is one thing. Evidence is another.

Do you have any studies showing yoga improves posture long-term? Or confidence measures? I’m open to it. But I want data.

Also: posture changes usually require strength and habit change. Yoga may help. But how much vs. physio exercises?

Ari

If you ever get the chance, aerial yoga can be AMAZING for posture confidence! 😍🪽 The hammock supports you while you open the chest and decompress the spine (it feels like your shoulders finally have space).

We do supported backbends and lots of scapular engagement without overloading wrists. And the “floating” feeling weirdly boosts confidence because you’re literally suspended and still okay 😂✨ Start with a beginner class though—good instructors keep it super safe.

Chiara

Lia, thank you for sharing this 💜 You’re not “wrong” for slouching—so many of us protect ourselves that way, especially with stress and screens. You deserve to feel comfortable taking up space 🥺✨

A gentle confidence + posture combo could be: Mountain (1 min), Cat-Cow (1–2 min), Sphinx (30–60 sec), Bridge (3 rounds), then a long Child’s pose. And throughout: soft jaw, soft eyes, slow breaths.

If anything feels painful or brings up a lot emotionally, it’s okay to pause and ask a teacher for help. You’re doing great, one practice at a time 🫶💗
