What yoga pose is the most relaxing?

Mister.Yoga — Relaxation & Mindfulness

Lia

I’ve been doing yoga on and off for a couple months, mostly YouTube classes after work. I’m not trying to “get flexible” right now—I’m just fried from screens and stress and I want that feeling where your nervous system finally lets go.

So… what yoga pose is the most relaxing for you? Like the one you’d pick if you only had 5–10 minutes before bed or when anxiety is buzzing. I’ve tried Child’s Pose and Legs Up the Wall and both help, but sometimes my hips or lower back get weird.

Also: do you do anything with breathing (counting, longer exhales, etc.) that makes the pose more relaxing? I’d love a few options for different bodies / days.

Ananda

For many, the most relaxing yoga pose is Śavāsana (Corpse Pose), because it allows the whole body to surrender while the breath becomes subtle. But the “most relaxing” is also the one where prāṇa can flow without obstruction.

If your lower back feels uneasy, place a bolster or rolled blanket under the knees in Śavāsana. This softens the pelvis and helps the apāna vayu settle. Breathe gently through the nose and lengthen the exhale (for example 4 in, 6 out). As the exhale grows, the mind follows.

When anxiety is strong, try Viparita Karani (Legs Up the Wall) with support under the hips, or Balāsana (Child’s Pose) with a pillow under the chest so the heart can rest. Feel the breath moving from navel to heart to throat—like a calm river. You are safe to release, little by little.

Mavi

Okay bestie, “most relaxing” for me is 100% Legs Up the Wall 😌✨ like instant nervous system reset.

If your low back gets cranky, scoot a lil farther from the wall + put a folded blanket under your hips OR bend your knees a bit. Another underrated one: Reclined Bound Angle (soles together, knees open) with pillows under the knees = chef’s kiss.

Breathing hack: inhale 4, exhale 6–8 (longer exhale = calmer). And if your brain won’t shut up, just count the exhales. You got this 💗🧘‍♀️

Dario

Most relaxing: Śavāsana. Done correctly.

Lie flat. Neck long. Chin slightly tucked. Shoulder blades heavy. Palms up. Feet fall outward.

Support: rolled towel under knees if lumbar tension.

Breath: nasal. Silent. Exhale longer than inhale.

Do not fidget. Stillness is the practice.

Silvia

Sweetheart, for deep relaxation I always come back to Supported Child’s Pose and Supported Savasana 💞🧸

In yin yoga we use props so the body doesn’t have to “hold itself up.” Try Child’s Pose with a pillow/bolster under your belly and chest, and maybe a blanket under the ankles. Then stay 3–5 minutes and let the breath soften.

If you’re doing Savasana, put a cushion under your knees and a cozy blanket over you 🥰🌙 And for breathing: a gentle “in for 4, out for 6” is so calming. If anxiety feels overwhelming, it’s also okay to reach out to a professional for extra support 🤍

Rocco

Hot take: the most relaxing yoga pose is the one where you stop performing for an imaginary audience 🙃

“Real yoga isn’t posing for Instagram,” it’s literally lying down and breathing like a normal human. So yeah, Savasana. Or “I’m not filming this” pose.

Props? Use them. Blankets? Use them. If some influencer tells you you’re “doing it wrong” because your knees are bent, congrats, you found a clown 🤡

Tina

Omg following because I’m also new 🥺🧘‍♀️ I *think* Child’s Pose is supposed to be relaxing but sometimes I feel like I can’t breathe well when my forehead is down?? And my ankles hurt!

Is it normal to feel embarrassed if you need a pillow or blocks? 😭 Also what mat do you use for like… not slipping? I get sweaty hands even in “relaxing” poses lol 😅

Nico

If we define “most relaxing” as shifting the nervous system toward parasympathetic + improving sleep metrics, my pick is Legs Up the Wall (Viparita Karani) + slow nasal breathing.

Protocol I use: 5–10 min legs up, then 2 min box breathing (4-4-6-2 or similar), then 1 min of extended exhales only (inhale normal, exhale long). I track HRV and it often bumps up the next morning when I’m consistent (n=1, not a claim).

For low back: put a yoga block/bolster under sacrum OR keep knees bent. If anxiety or insomnia is persistent, pairing yoga with evidence-based sleep hygiene (light timing, caffeine cutoff) and professional support can be a game changer.

Gigi

Most relaxing pose for me is Legs Up the Wall but like… with ✨vibes✨ hehe 🥺🌸 I do it during waning moon to release stress, and I put a little rose quartz near my heart (don’t judgeeee).

Also Savasana with a lil lavender scent is SOOO calming. I breathe like I’m pulling sparkly light in and exhaling the “nope energy” out 😤💖

If your hips feel weird, add pillows!! Comfort = higher vibrations ok byeee 🌙🔮

Vale

Not gonna lie, after a 90-min hot class the most relaxing pose is Savasana because you’ve basically melted into the floor 😂

But if we’re talking at home, 5–10 minutes: reclined twist (both sides) then Savasana. The twist makes my back feel “wrung out” (in a good way) and then I can actually drop.

Just don’t force the twist. Breathe slow. And hydrate if you’ve been sweating a lot.

Elena

If anyone reading is pregnant (or possibly pregnant), I’d say the most relaxing “go-to” is a side-lying rest pose (like Savasana on your left side) with pillows for support 🫶🤰✨

Legs Up the Wall can feel amazing too, but I usually suggest keeping it gentle and comfortable, and checking with your care provider if you have any complications. A supported Child’s Pose with knees wide and a bolster can also be so soothing.

Breath tip: soft inhale through the nose, slow exhale like you’re fogging a mirror (but gently) 😌 If anything causes dizziness, pressure, or discomfort, come out right away and choose a more supported position.

Brando

Most relaxing is Savasana because it’s basically the “frequency reset” posture. People underestimate how much the nervous system is impacted by hidden noise—wifi, screens, constant alerts.

Try Savasana with palms up, tongue relaxed, and slow breathing while focusing between the eyebrows (third eye). That point is like an antenna. Ancient practices knew what modern life tries to drown out.

If you feel restless, that’s the system detoxing from overstimulation. Stay with it.

Zenio

The most relaxing pose

is the one

you can surrender to.

From a recovery angle: Legs Up the Wall + supported Savasana are undefeated 🙌🧘‍♂️

After heavy squats/deadlifts my hips and low back get tight, so I’ll do: 2 min reclined figure-4 (each side) then 5 min Savasana with knees supported. Helps me chill and also makes me less wrecked the next day.

If Child’s Pose bugs your back, don’t force it. Props and knees wide usually fix it. Your body > the “perfect shape” 💪

Viola

For the *most relaxing yoga pose*, I’m team Supported Savasana 🤍✨ It feels like a mini spa moment at home.

I do it with a soft eye pillow, a light blanket, and a bolster under the knees. If I want extra cozy vibes, I’ll do it on my thicker mat (I love a cushy premium one because it makes resting poses feel luxurious). Also: dim lighting + a calm playlist = instant unwind 💫🧘‍♀️

Deep relaxation often arises when the nervous system feels safe enough for prāṇa to move upward without disturbance. In that sense, Śavāsana is sacred.

If you want a kundalini-flavored approach: lie in Śavāsana and practice Long Deep Breathing through the nose. You may add a soft mantra internally on the exhale, like “Sat” on inhale, “Nam” on exhale, letting the sound ride the breath.

For grounding, feel the base of the spine and the navel center (maṇipūra). Let the exhale be your anchor. Keep it gentle—no strain, no forcing of energy.

Lollo

Most relaxing pose? The one where I don’t hear my hamstrings screaming 😅

Real answer: Savasana. Bonus points if you don’t immediately think about emails.

Runner up: Child’s Pose unless your thighs are like “absolutely not today” 😂

Pina

If you want the most relaxing option that’s accessible to almost everyone, try a supported seated relaxation in a chair.

Sit back with your feet flat, hands on thighs, and let your shoulders soften. You can add a small pillow behind the lower back. Then take 5 slow breaths, making the exhale longer than the inhale.

Another gentle favorite is “legs on a chair”: lie on the floor and rest calves on the seat of a chair (knees about 90 degrees). It can feel like a very supported Savasana. Always choose comfort, and if pain persists, check with a professional.

Asha

For relaxation, I love Supported Savasana or a long, soft Child’s Pose—then I pair it with something warm for the digestion and nerves.

In Ayurveda, a simple routine can help: practice your relaxing pose in the evening, breathe with longer exhales, then sip a caffeine-free tea (like chamomile or warm water with a little ginger if it suits you). Many people find warmth helps the body feel safe enough to rest.

Of course, listen to your system—if reflux, pregnancy, or sensitivities are in the picture, choose what’s gentle for you.

Teo

Ok but like… which relaxing pose also helps me get flexible faster?? 😤😂 I can do Child’s Pose but my hips are tight AF.

If I do Legs Up the Wall every night will my hamstrings open up quicker?? Or is there a “relaxing” pose that secretly gives big flexibility gains?? I’m trying to speedrun this 🧘‍♂️🔥

Irene

For me the most relaxing yoga pose is Legs Up the Wall when my anxiety is loud. It’s one of the few things that makes my body feel like it can stop bracing 🥺🌙

I keep it super simple: phone away, lights low, 5 minutes, and I only focus on the exhale. If thoughts come, I label them “thinking” and go back to counting breaths.

And if you ever feel like the anxiety is too big to handle alone, you deserve support from a therapist/doctor too. Yoga helps me, but I needed both 🤍

Marcello

In the Yoga Sutras, yoga is described as the settling of the fluctuations of the mind (yogaś citta-vṛtti-nirodhaḥ). A “most relaxing yoga pose” is simply the posture that best supports that settling for you.

Traditionally, Śavāsana is a direct doorway into pratyāhāra (withdrawal of the senses): you remove effort, reduce sensory input, and observe breath and awareness. Yet the Gita also reminds us of balance—no extremes, no strain.

So: choose the pose where the breath can become smooth and the mind less reactive. Add a longer exhale and a gentle, steady attention. Relaxation becomes practice, not performance.

Simo

Most relaxing pose for me is Savasana, like the end of a Bali flow when you can hear the ocean and you just let gooo 😌🌴✨

At home I do legs up the wall + a 5 min breath, and I swear it helps my sleep alot. Also if you can do a digital detox (even 30 min no phone) it hits different, your mind is more calm.

I love doing it with a eye pillow and little candle, so aesthetic but also works 😂

Rina

Define “most relaxing.” Subjective.

Good candidates: Savasana, Legs Up the Wall, supported Child’s Pose.

Evidence question: any studies comparing these poses head-to-head for anxiety or sleep? Or at least data on slow breathing + relaxation response? Links welcome.

Gioia

In aerial yoga, the MOST relaxing thing is cocooning in the hammock 😭💗 Like a suspended Savasana! You wrap the fabric around you and it’s this safe floating feeling.

If you don’t have a hammock at home, you can mimic that “hugged” sensation with a bolster + blanket in Savasana, or supported Child’s Pose with something under your chest.

Also gentle rocking (if safe) in the hammock is sooo calming for the mind 🫶✨

Chiara

Lia, I really love how you asked this—because relaxation can look different day to day 🥺🤍

If you want a few options:

- Supported Savasana (blanket + pillow under knees)

- Legs Up the Wall (or calves on a chair if your back feels “weird”)

- Supported Child’s Pose (hug a pillow/bolster)

And yes, breathing makes a HUGE difference 💞 Try just making the exhale a little longer and letting your shoulders soften on every out-breath. You’re not doing it wrong if you need props or adjustments—comfort is the goal here 🫶✨
