Hi everyone, I’m a bit confused and I keep seeing mixed explanations online. I’ve been going to a studio that offers both yin yoga and restorative yoga, and on the schedule they sound like the same thing: slow, calm, lots of props, long holds.
But in class they felt different and I can’t quite explain why. In yin I felt a deep stretch (almost like my hips were “talking back”), while restorative felt more like I was just melting into blankets and my brain finally shut up.
So what actually makes yin yoga different from restorative yoga? Is one better for flexibility and the other for stress? And how do you choose between them if you’re tired, tight, and kind of anxious lately?
Thanks in advance—trying to pick the right class without overthinking it.
