Hi everyone. I keep seeing the phrase “yoga for trauma integration” and I’m not totally sure what it means in real life. I’ve done a few regular yoga classes and sometimes I feel calm after, but other times certain poses or long holds make me feel weirdly emotional or like I want to leave the room.
I’m not trying to “fix” anything overnight, but I would like to understand what people mean by integrating trauma through yoga. Is it just gentle stretching and breathing, or is it more like therapy? What should a trauma-informed class look like (language, adjustments, pacing)? And how do you know if it’s helping vs. triggering?
For context: I’m already in counseling, but I’d like something supportive for my body too. Any personal experiences or practical tips are welcome. Thank you.
