I keep seeing people talk about “yoga for emotional trauma release” and I’m not sure what that actually means.
For some context: I’m not trying to self-diagnose anything, but I’ve been carrying a lot of stress for years (family stuff, a breakup, work pressure). Sometimes when I stretch my hips or do deep breathing I feel this weird surge of sadness or I get teary, even if I wasn’t thinking about anything specific. It’s a little scary, but also like… something is moving.
Is trauma release yoga a specific style? Is it just yin? Somatic work? How do you do it safely without spiraling? I’m not in great shape and I’m also self-conscious in classes, so I’m looking for a realistic explanation and maybe beginner-friendly tips. Also: if it’s normal to cry during yoga, I’d love to hear that too.
