Hi everyone, I’ve been doing vinyasa on and off for a couple years, but lately I’m feeling pretty stressed and “stuck” in my body (tight hips, tense shoulders, shallow breathing). A friend suggested somatic yin yoga and said it’s different from regular yin because it helps you “retrain” patterns and calm the nervous system.
I tried one YouTube class and it felt super slow and oddly emotional? Like my body was releasing stuff I didn’t know I was holding. I liked it, but I’m not sure what benefits are actually realistic and what’s just hype.
So… what are the benefits of somatic yin yoga in your experience? Is it mainly flexibility, or more like stress/anxiety support and body awareness? And how often do you practice it to notice a difference?
