Hi everyone, I’m new here. I’ve been dealing with what I can only describe as “breathing anxiety” lately: I suddenly become super aware of my breath, then I feel like I can’t get a full inhale, and I spiral. It happens more at night or when I’m stressed, but sometimes even while scrolling on the couch.
A friend suggested yoga for anxiety and breathing, but I’m also scared that focusing on breath will make it worse. I’m not looking for miracle cures, just something gentle that could help me feel safer in my body. Has yoga (or specific breathing exercises) helped any of you with this kind of anxious breathing? If yes, what styles or practices felt calming vs. triggering? I’m also open to hearing “this isn’t the right tool” if that’s your honest experience.
For context: I’m not super flexible, I’ve only done a couple beginner YouTube classes, and I’m trying to cut down caffeine. I’m not asking for medical advice, just personal experiences and ideas to discuss with my therapist/doctor if needed. Thanks.
