Hi everyone, I’m totally new to yoga and I keep hearing about Ashtanga being “the real deal,” but also super intense. I’m 29, I work at a desk all day, I’m not very flexible (hamstrings are basically bricks), and I get a bit anxious in fast-paced classes because I feel like I’m holding people back.
I’ve tried a couple of YouTube vinyasa flows and I liked the structure, but I also got wrist soreness and felt lost with the breathing. I’m curious: can beginners start directly with Ashtanga yoga, or is it better to do something else first (like hatha or basics classes)?
If you think beginners can start, what should I look for (Mysore vs led class, beginner series, modifications)? I’m not trying to “win” yoga, just want a consistent practice that helps posture and stress. Thanks 💜
